Gelephu Thromde
Gelephu is a town in Sarpang district in Bhutan. It is located on the Indian border, about 30 km to the east of Sarpang Dzongkhag and has a population of 9,858, out of which 5,146 were males and 4,712 were females as per 30 May,2017 census. It is one of the road entry points into Bhutan from India. Phuntsholing to its west and Samdrup Jongkhar to its east are two other road entry points into Bhutan.
As we know that housing is one of the basic needs of human life. The conditions of housing units determine the quality of life of population. Gelephu Thromde had the largest number of households and Gelegphu Thromde reported the highest proportion of households with improved sanitation facilities at 86.9% as per 2017,population and housing census of Bhutan.
Regarding migration as per Population and Housing census of Bhutan,2017, a total of 6,609 persons have in-migrated to Gelephu Thromde and 4,627 have out-migrated from Gelephu Thromde, which accounts to 1,982 persons gained for the Thromde. The percent of urban to urban migrants was 17.7% and rural to urban migrants was 57.3% for Gelephu Thromde.
